What We Do

While traditional tutoring programs focus on content instruction, our literacy programs are based on The Science of Reading*, a collection of research that is centered around the idea that there are five major literary processing skills. The evidence shows that all students are required to learn and master these skills in order to become strong and efficient readers and learners. We focus on the sensory-cognitive processes that are tied into these skills through our individualized instruction. Those five skills are:

1. Phonemic Awareness - ability to identify and play with individual sounds in spoken words

2. Phonics - understanding how letters and groups of letters link to sounds to form letter-sound relationships and spelling patterns

3. Fluency - ability to read words, phrases, sentences, and stories correctly, with enough speed and expression

4. Vocabulary - knowing what words mean and how to say and use them correctly

5. Comprehension - ability to understand and conceptually visualize what you are reading

With an initial consultation and evaluation, we can identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses in the above skills along with other skills, such as spelling and critical thinking. This will allow us to develop a multisensory, structured and explicit individualized plan for the student that remedies learning challenges and reinforces their strengths in addition to their confidence. We use an interactive instructional approach and Socratic questioning to integrate and process sensory information more effectively and efficiently.

Who We Serve

We work with students of all ages, children, adolescents, and adults, who have diverse learning needs and challenges. Our literacy programs are designed to serve as interventions for those who have had previous diagnoses, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, hyperlexia, and autism spectrum disorder. We also work with students who simply want to enhance their school performance and make learning easier and more enjoyable.
